My Favorite Interviews

Podcast 1 hr 20 mins

This is the sort of conversation that was my fantasy when writing the Dancing with the Octopus -- a discussion with Michael Woodson and Jill Burket-Ragase who host B**K It. We moved from the social to the political to the personal and touched on all the core themes of the book. These two are fantastic, I love the authors they selected in their first season (all children and young adult fiction) and can't wait to listen to who is in line for the second season. Both are avid readers and they bring a unique emotional intelligence to their reviews. The podcast is a project of the Blue Manatee Literacy Project and Bookstore in Cincinatti OH, a non-profit bookstore that gives a free book to a child in need with every purchase.

Lara Lillibridge of Hippocampus Magazine and Books contacted two months before the US launch and it was my first interview. I was nervous, but it turned into a deeply rewarding conversation. Lara is also a memoirist, with a deep appreciation for structure. Her questions were fantastic. It felt like a special experience and her interview here is the result.

This was my first live event and it landed on the day of my U.S. release — September 22nd. Robin Homonoff was a load of fun, she has a great sense of humor, and she asked terrific questions. We covered a lot of territory!
